There will always be times when you will feel stressed at work no matter how much you like what you are doing. Unlike others you don’t have to let stress have the upper hand. It is possible to deal with stress in such a way that it can motivate you in a positive rather than a negative manner.

Examining Stress at Work

People often feel completely isolated when they are dealing with work related stress, which is often an erroneous perception. Surprisingly enough work can be the highest stress factor for around twenty five percent of people. Nowadays it seems that as many as seventy five percent of workers believe that work is more stressful for them than it was for their parents.

Most of us get stressed about work at points, so you are not alone. More often than not people begin to feel less nervy and stressed when they know that other people feel the same way.

You can, fortunately, develop methods to minimize the stress you feel at work.

Reducing Workplace Stress

Ways to limit job related stress include the following:

Don’t hang on to unimportant issues

Take steps to achieve a greater balance between the workplace and home

Establish a supportive circle of relations, friends and colleagues

Let Go of Things

A relaxed and positive attitude often affects the world around you in a positive manner. Things that bothered you in the past will seem unimportant once you establish a positive attitude to your surroundings. The stress won’t disappear but your attitude towards it will have changed significantly.

Balancing Life and Work

We often experience stress and find it difficult to deal with things when work becomes all important. Make time for activities such as telephoning a friend or making time to read that book you bought. If work has too much of a central place it will take over the rest of your life. When work assumes too much, it reduces your effectiveness and efficiency.

Quality Family Time Reduces Stress

You should make space in your life for your family and for meeting friends and colleagues somewhere other than the workplace. Work can encroach into our home life if we allow it to do so. Having a circle of friends and relatives that you can enjoy time with outside of work can decentralize the role of work in your life. This same supportive circle will be of great benefit whenever stress does get to you.

Being overwhelmed from stress at work is often alleviated when we have friends who can help us to see the bigger picture. Just because some things are stressful does not imply that we have to be destroyed by it. If you want to enjoy a fulfilling life both in and outside of work, then you need to be able to cope with the stresses that are an inevitable part of life.

I am constantly achieving peace and relaxation in my life.

I make it a point to foster peace and relaxation in my life, because I value my life and my well-being.

I slow down to allow peace into my mind. If a harsh thought attempts to assault me when I start to relax, I refuse to pay attention to it. Instead, I choose to be still, knowing that there are far more peaceful, positive thoughts to protect me against mental assault.

I train and reward my mind by actively following positive thoughts and allowing the negative ones to fall away unattended. Negative thoughts, left unfed, will die off. They do not distress me by their presence, and I allow them to come and go without any direct attention from me.

Periodic relaxation is the gateway to peace, through which I find health, wholeness, and productivity. By taking time to settle down and to open myself up, I achieve a richer and more fulfilling life.

Self-Reflection Questions:

In what ways do I foster peace in my life?

Do I allow my fear of negative thoughts to keep my mind too busy for my own good? Why?

In what way can I open myself up to peace today?

Have you ever found yourself waking up in the middle of the night with your mind racing from one frantic thought to another or worried about what the next day will bring? Have you ever found yourself not knowing where to even begin because you feel so completely overwhelmed at the tasks waiting for you?

All of us have felt like this at one time or another, it’s true, but some of us feel this way all of the time. Calming your mind will allow you to be more productive while enjoying life at its fullest.

Achieving Inner Peace

With a mind that simply will not stop racing, chances are inner peace is something you’re not very familiar with. The faster your mind races, the more ill at ease you become, leading to lost days, months, and years of time. Fortunately you don’t have to continue living life in this depressing way as there are numerous ways of slowing your mind and achieving a sense of inner calm and peace.

When your thoughts start heading off in all different directions leaving you with a few dozen things jumping around in your mind, make a conscious effort to stop for a moment and say a positive affirmation. The power of positivity coupled with saying affirmations to yourself are endless and they will allow you to reprogram your mind in new, effective ways.

If and when it seems like things are getting too stressful, repeat an affirmation like, “I am confident in my ability to remain calm. I am at peace.” While this may not exactly seem like the truth in the heat of the moment, after repeating it a few times you’ll begin to notice yourself believing it, and give you the chance to change and pay attention to that ever important inner voice.

These affirmations give us the unspoken permission to ignore the negative inner dialogue in our minds that never shuts itself off and replace it with positive thoughts and ideas. Negative inner-talk simply exacerbates an existing problem, perpetuating a cycle of failure and despair, but positive statements have the power to negate these thoughts, and in essence, change your life one sentence at a time.

Even if you may have a difficult time believing this particular strategy will be effective for you, open your mind and your heart and give it a chance to work anyway despite the negative thoughts you might be having.

Too many of us feel that we’re powerless against the forces in our lives that cause us to feel chaotic and out of control. Rest assured this is simply not the case as anyone can benefit from a few positive statements repeated over time. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to see how soon a sentence as seemingly simple as, “I am sure there is a wonderful future in store for me, even if it isn’t apparent at the moment,” can make a great difference.

Whenever you feel as if you’re not in control of your life and the course it’s taking, try giving positive, peaceful affirmations a chance to make a difference. In very little time, repeating positive affirmations to yourself will permeate your thinking, both consciously and subconsciously, and allow you to turn these basic statements into reality.

I allow my body to receive enough rest and exercise.

I make sure to take care of my body and mind. When I work, I work hard. But when it is time to relax, I focus entirely on me, leaving stress behind.

I know rest and exercise is important to my physical health. Exercise keeps me at a healthy weight and helps my heart pumping optimally.

Rest allows my cells to renew themselves and helps them ward off illnesses. I am able to avoid more extensive time loss from illness and disease because I give myself enough rest each night.

I also rest for the sake of my emotional and spiritual strength and stamina. The more rested I am, the more I am able to proactively rise above stress.

I also rest and exercise for my personal creativity. A tired mind is a muddled mind, and I keep mine rested so it can be clear and open to whatever insights may cross my path. Creativity is not something that can be forced; it simply infuses me when I am able to allow it.

For these reasons, I regularly invest in the health and well-being of my body, mind, and spirit.

Self-Reflection Questions:

Do I invest in my own health and well-being?

Do I recognize the extra energy available to me when I exercise my body and mind?

Do I allow myself enough rest to be open to the creative impulses that cross my path?

Everyone has challenges in their life. Even though challenges can help to spur a person on, many of us find them a strain. Without challenges people would never move forward, would never achieve their goals and would never change and grow as a person.

Knowing that challenges are beneficial often makes them less problematic and can even be a basis for dealing with whatever problem you face next. It is always a good idea to reflect on what you want from life and to make the necessary changes to ensure your happiness.

Dealing with Challenges

It does us good to remember that most problems are short lived. When you are faced with a serious challenge, it is always a good idea to remember that even the worst situation is temporary and will eventually pass. It is all too easy to become entangled in a situation, which makes it difficult to see that there is always light at the end of a tunnel.

Sometimes we need help to deal with the problems that we face. It is all too easy to think that we are alone when this is often not the case. Those around us are usually more than ready to help, and if the situation demands it, we can always turn to a professional. It is very true to say that when we share a problem, the stress we feel is often lessened.

Problems and challenges are a lot easier to deal with if they are broken down into steps. We are too inclined to look at things as a whole, which can make challenges seem insurmountable. Take stock of the challenges in your life, you will feel less overwhelmed if you take each situation one step at a time. Many people find that positive thinking is a better way to deal with the problems they face.

An increasing number of people use positive statements, either written down or memorized to enable them to deal with problems as they come up. Positive statements or affirmations as they are often called are a good way of banishing unhelpful thoughts and feelings. More individuals find that a positive attitude is the best way to deal with problems, both large and small.

Using affirmations in your life is simply an extension of positive thinking. Positive statements or affirmations commonly make use of phrases such as I can or I am, saying, doing or being something. When you repeat your affirmations each morning you strengthen positive thoughts and actions in your life. Depending on the person, affirmations may be stated at a particular hour of the day, or they may only be used when the person is confronted by a problem or challenge.

It is not easy to deal with the challenges in your life, but overcoming them is a necessary part of knowing yourself and what you want out of life. More often than not you can deal with challenges by using one of the above means, and sometimes you will need more than one method. Everyone develops their own means of solving problems, nonetheless, positive thinking should never be discounted. Thinking positively helps you to recognize the value of every problem or challenge that you are confronted with.
