Finding the Motivation You Need

Many of us find ourselves looking at our to-do list and wondering to ourselves how we will accomplish everything. We often find ourselves lacking the necessary motivation that is needed for a productive workday.

Whenever we have to deal with something we don’t particularly enjoy it is difficult to feel motivated into action. But the great news is that you can literally stockpile your motivation so that you can use it whenever you need to in order to accomplish everything on that to-do list.

Getting (and Staying) Motivated

What we need to understand is that there is no gray area when it comes to motivation, you either are motivated or you aren’t. But even if you think motivation is a thing of the past with you it is important to remember that there is always hope.

The first step toward getting motivated is to make contact with someone in whom you are able to see the motivational qualities that you want for yourself. It doesn’t matter if the person is a member of your family, someone you work with, a friend, or some other acquaintance. Use them as an example and perhaps discuss with them their passions and motivation. Very often just talking about these things with someone we admire can be motivating in itself. No man is an island so it is necessary for you to step out of your comfort zone and give this idea a try.

Although it may sound strange it is true that relaxation can be beneficial in getting you going. Very often the creativity and inspiration we need vanishes if we are stressed or under pressure. The same can be said of someone who doesn’t get the right amount of sleep and works too many hours without a break.

If you are finding that high stress levels are draining you of motivation then try taking a mental vacation. Give your brain a rest by doing something else, like shopping for example, or reading a book, taking a walk, or chatting with a friend. Although it may not seem like the feasible thing to do, taking a break is very often the thing needed to get your motivation back.

Sometimes just doing something constructive like cleaning or tidying up can be motivational because it helps you to relax. Whether you clean the house or straighten up your workspace it can be very beneficial in getting our minds off the stressful stuff and thereby helping to relax us. De-cluttering your desk can help to de-clutter your mind.

Another helpful technique to help motivate yourself is to try motivational affirmations. By making positive statements like “I am my own intrinsic motivator,” or “I live life to the fullest through use of my own energy” you could find that this is the very thing you need.

By using statements like these you effectively help to reprogram your own mind in a positive way. When self-doubt and procrastination take over these statements can be beneficial. The only way to find out for sure is to do it yourself. Why don’t you give it a go? You are likely to be pleasantly surprised.
